Old Crow Medicine Show at the Warren Hellman tribute concert a couple blocks from my apartment. They were so good. So good. It feels weird without Willie (and Kevin Hayes was not there either), but Critter is back and sang Old Virginia Creeper, Cory Younts has taken Willie’s place on guitar and harmony and added amazing trills with his mandolin, and that fucking sex bastard Ketch Secor remains that fucking sex bastard Ketch Secor, ugh fucking us all with his fiddle, ugh.
The thing that we’ll miss without Willie are the songs that Willie led, of course. I don’t know how, or if, they’ll sing God’s Got It or Down Home Girl or We’re All In This Together, without him; but this was an abbreviated set, so they avoided that issue.
Also, they covered Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody. seriously. it was incredible.
